(Pronounced "neigh-neigh".) The nene
is smooth and effective. It appears to be a favorite amongst Hawaiian kava
drinkers. It is named after the Hawaiian goose. Hawaiian mothers provided the leaf bud of the plant to calm their
children. It appears to be very calming.
(Pronounced "moh-ee".) Favored by
Hawaiian royalty, mo'i is apparently potent and quick acting. The flavor is
strong and appears to some as having cocoa or chocolate notes. Euphoricients
appear to be high.
(Pronounced "paw-naw-eva".) Smooth
and effective, somewhat like the nene, with pleasant soda cracker notes that
contribute to its palatibility. It also appears to be a favorite
amongst Hawaiian kava drinkers. This variety is also known as SIG (short-internode
green, a plant description).
(Pronounced "papa-ay-lay-ay-lay".) Renown
for its association with Papa (earth-mother) and used in Hawaiian ceremonies
as such. Some people characterize this kava as a quick acting calmative with
a smooth flavor.
Same as the Mo'i above but with most of the skin or the bark removed.
The result is a brew with less tannins, and providing a perhaps smoother mo'i, with much
of the potency retained.
Our 100% Hawaiian kavas here are organically grown
in Hawai'i, harvested for its roots after two years, pounded
using a hammer mill, and sieved to remove chafe.
The result is an all natural, excellent quality product that we
feel is unmatched in potency, flavor, and value.
Hawaiian kavas are also reknown for their
dominance in kavain (a preferred kavalactone). In
addition, because they are sanitary, we are not required to, and do not treat them with
Methyl bromide. Thus, too, flavor
is unaffected, and prudent avoidance of Methyl
bromide is assured. (Some S. Pacific kavas are
treated with Methyl bromide - a chemical used as a fungicide and
insecticide, which we feel is dangerous to human health.)
